~About Me~

Hello. Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and find out a little bit “About Me”.
My name is Doreen Frost and I am the designer, creator and life giver to these sweet little creatures & creations you will find here at Vermont Harvest Folk Art. I live in southern Vermont with my wonderful and supportive husband Mark. We have two amazing children. Jenna has recently graduated from Paul Smith's College and is now living in beautiful Oregon with her wonderful fiance, Ben. Kurt is currently a Senior at Paul Smiths College and is contemplating staying for his Master's Degree.
For the most part, I am a self taught artist, although over the past few years I’ve taken several classes on pattern design, various techniques and historical traditions. I am also currently seeking a degree in creative writing.
I've always had a knack for creating things with my hands as well as a great love and excitement when I’ve brought something to life or completed a project myself. As a child I was always creating, building, writing, drawing and baking. Throughout my school years, Home Economics and History were always my favorites classes.

~Here at Vermont Harvest Folk Art you will find a delightful mixture of Early Style Folk Art Creations Reminiscent of the 18th & 19th Century. For the most part, over the past few years, I have been concentrating on my "Mohair Moppets". These sweet little characters bring me so much JOY.
Each "Moppet" is created using antique & vintage Mohair or new Schulte or Helmbold Mohair. Paw pads are made from antique & vintage wool, ultra suede, velor or leather. Each one is stuffed with a combination of wool roving, Excelsior; wood wool, lavender or dried pine with walnut shells, glass beads, ceramic pellets or steel shot added for weight. The above, of course, depends on the desired finished look & feel of the bear. Each is 5 way disk or cotter pin jointed and have glass eyes and waxed noses. They are all shaved, snipped & shaded to give them an aged, time worn & much loved appearance.
On occasion, an idea comes to mind and I feel the need to create something different. Below you will find a few details about the making of those items, the quality materials I will always use and how you can expect each one to be created.
My beeswax items are created using pure 100% creamy beeswax from a local beekeeper. Each piece is hand poured one at a time using antique, vintage or reproduction molds. They are then aged and perfectly scented & dusted with spices.
My Early Dolls are hand sculpted from clay & aged to appear as if they have been gently taken from an olde trunk in the attic. Clothing and accessories are made using antique, vintage & reproduction fabrics, trims & trinkets. Each piece is created with the utmost care & quality to ensure your complete satisfaction.
You may be confident in knowing that when you purchase one of my original creations that it was made with great attention to detail and the finest materials. Know that you will have a quality piece of art that will last for many, many years to come.
